HOLD STILL TIM ADLER
Everyone has a secret.
I photographed the moment of my husband’s death.
Kate and her husband Paul are in Tirana, Albania for the opening of a hotel project she’s designed. Relaxing in their room, Kate snaps a picture of her husband. Hold Still. She says as he steps onto the balcony and falls to his death.
Distressed and in denial, Kate combs social media for tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram feeds for any mention of her husband’s fatal plunge. She begins to suspect everyone in her own holiday photos is somehow involved in Paul’s death when Kate suspects Priest, a young widow who she meets through her grief support group, is also involved, she starts to question her own sanity. Surely the camera never lies.
MY REVIEW
I felt upset for Kate after her husband who she loved had now gone for ever from her life, leaving her feel like life seemed pointless. Every now and then in the newspaper we will read how someone has fallen from a hotel balcony and wonder how on earth did it happen? I love reading thrillers, with the odd things that come to light. Kate is the main character, when her husband falls to his death from a hotel balcony, she is sure that he didn’t just trip over the edge but was murdered. I felt even more sorry for Kate, being told by her mother in-law the most horrible thing you could imagine. Here the question remains hanging, how did Paul fall to death from his hotel balcony? Thriller fans I recommend Hold Still to you all.
Tim Adler had the idea for writing Hold Still, after taking a photo of his son jumping from high rocks into the sea. Through the viewfinder it looked like as if he was going to dash his head on the rocks.
I remember being in Spain when my eldest daughter did exactly the same thing, she climbed high rocks and jumped into the sea as I looked on in horror.
