ALL THE HIDDEN TRUTHS CLAIRE ASKEW
PUBLISHER HODDER & STOUGHTON HARDBACK 9TH AUGUST 2018
On the 14th May at 8.20am Ryan Summers walked in to Three Rivers College in Edinburgh and started shooting.
The day before DI Helen Birch started a new job.
The day before Isbel Hodgekiss argued with her daughter.
The day before Moria Summers tried to talk to her son.
This is a fact: Ryan Summers walked into Three Rivers College and killed thirteen women, then himself. But no one can say why.
The question is one that cries out to be answered – by Ryan’s mother, Moira; by Ishbel, the mother of Abigail, the first victim; and by DI Helen Birch, put in charge of the case on her first day at her new job. But as the tabloids and the media swarm, as the families’ secrets come out, as the world searches for someone to blame… the truth seems to vanish.
As the shooting ripples out across the lives of these three women, all of them are searching for answers to the unanswerable.
MY REVIEW
I’m afraid I have to be really honest. I couldn’t get past the first page it just didn’t grab my attention. I struggled to get through the first chapter, then I decided to not carry on reading any further. I do need to be pulled in from the first page or the first chapter. I have read a much better book about a school shooting , Only Child by Rhiannon Navin had me gripped from the first page and had me turning the pages. I have read a mixture of reviews about All The Hidden Truths where some reviewers have loved All The Hidden Truths and other reviewers haven’t liked it. I’m afraid it comes down to the fact that we can’t all like the same books. However as quite a lot of reviewers have liked this book I would recommend it for that reason. Before you decide if you want to buy All The Hidden Truths, I would advise to read the first few pages through Amazon.
