STRIKE YOUR HEART AMELIE NOTHOMB
Paperback publisher Europa Editions
Diane is raised boa mother so plagued by jealousy of her own daughter that she is incapable of showing affection to her. Despite this, Diane grows up to become a brilliant young woman who rejects societal expectations. She forges her own path, dismissing suitors and pursuing her dream of becoming a cardiologist. At university, she befriends an assistant professor, Olivia. Intelligent and cold, Olivia’s ambition and need to feel superior to others drags Diane down a dark place.
This is the story of Diane’s relationships with other women her best friend, the sweet Elizabeth her mentor, the selfish Olivia her sister, the coddled Celia and of course, her mother Marie. Nothomb balances light hearted observations with sharp revelations, exposing the varieties of female bonds. Strike Your Heart takes a philosophical look at jealousy, contempt, loss, betrayal, and about it all, the capacity for forgiveness.
MY REVIEW
Strike Your Heart , I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of reading it. I very extremely recommend this book to every single one of you. Young beautiful Marie liked to go to parties. All the boys paid her attention. Marie gets pregnant by Olivier, within weeks they are married. I couldn’t believe it when Marie gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, she wouldn’t even so much as look at baby girl. How could Marie be jealous of her baby daughter. Soon Marie becomes pregnant again. It’s quite a heartbreaker of a story, but extremely well written.
