SHORT  CUTS to HAPPINESS Tal Ben-Shahar

Publisher Yellow Kite

How I found the meaning of life from a barber’s chair

when happiness expert Tal Ben- Shahar sits down in his barber’s Avi’s chair, he gets more than a haircut. He gets an insight into what it takes to be truly happy.

over the course of two years, Tal and Avi talked about a wide range of topics while he had his hair cut. From everyday matters to life’s big themes, when Tal listened to the simple wisdom of his barber he was amazed what he was hearing chimed with the psychology of happiness he knew so well. Avi had discovered the secrets to finding lasting happiness simply by observing all the lives that passed through his barber shop.

This wise little book distils their conversations, revealing the shortcuts to happiness we can all take, and encourage us to appreciate the little things in life.

MY REVIEW

Tal Ben-Shahar, PhD, taught the largest course at Harvard, Positive Psychology and the third-largest, The Psychology of leadership attracting 1,400 students per semester. I did hair dressing training years ago, now I’m always dying both my daughters hair. With knowledge of the hair dressing this is what made me want to read this book. A really good Barbers and hairdresser make us beautiful within and without. For many of us who once we have found the hairdresser that does our hair to perfection we keep visiting them. Some hairdressers we can chat openly to. This is exactly what happened to Tal, he found a really good barber, Avi, they chatted openly and became friends. Throughout this little hardback the reader is taken through things Tal and Avi talked about, becoming friends. When Tal had written this book he asked for barber Avi’s permission to publish it. In Tal Ben-Shahar’s words he claimed after all, it is more Avi’s book than Tal’s
