Courtney’s War by Wilburn Smith
Publisher Zaffre
Paris, 1939 -Torn apart by war, Saffron Courtney and Gerhard von Meerbach are thousands of miles apart, both struggling for their lives.
Gerhard – despite his objections to the Nazi regime – is fighting for the Fatherland, hoping to one day have the opportunity to rid Germany of Hitler and his cronies. But as his unit is thrown into the hellish attrition of the Battle of Stalingrad, he knows his chances of survival are dwindling by the day.
Meanwhile Saffron – recruited by the Special Operations Executive and sent to occupied Belgium to discover how the Nazis have infiltrated SOE’s network – soon finds herself being hunted by Germany’s most ruthless spymaster.
Confronted by evil beyond their worst imaginings, the lovers must each make the hardest choice of all: sacrifice themselves, or do whatever they can to survive, hoping that one day they will be reunited.
MY REVIEW
I have heard of Wilburn Smith, but never had read any of his books. When I found out that Wilburn Smith had published Courtney’s War, after reading the outline I knew I had to to take the opportunity and read it. The first thing that I enjoyed was his writing skills.
I was totally fascinated by Saffron’s character who was recruited by the Special Operations Executive. Her training was brutal, which made this story a page turner. Saffron wasn’t afraid of anything, she had a knife and a pistol and she would use them if she needed to.
Even though I was wide eyed at things that happened throughout, I throughly enjoyed the whole story from beginning to end. All of the characters were convincing, with a buzz of brilliant action of dialogue. I’m not a fan of war books and no reader needs to be to be able to get into Courtney’s War.
Wilburn Smith has had an amazing forty-one global bestsellers. The Courtney’s War series is Wilburn’s longest-running and best-known series. The cover of Courtney’s War is absolutely one of my favourite covers of books I’ve seen. Courtney’s War is amazing with enjoyable action that’s why I totally recommend it to everyone.
