The Minders by John Marrs

Paperback published by Penguin Random House 17th September 2020

In the 21st century information is king. But computers can be hacked, files can be broken into. So a unique government initiative has been born. Five ordinary people have been selected to become Minders the latest weapon in thwarting cyber terrorism. Transformed by a revolutionary medical procedure, the country’s most classified information has been taken offline and turned into genetic code implanted inside their heads.

Together, the five know every secret the truth behind every government lie, conspiracy theory and cover up. In return, they’re given the chance to leave their problems behind and a blank slate to start their lives anew.

But not everyone should be trusted, especially when they each have secrets of their own they’ll do anything to protect.

My review

The Minders is by John Marrs from the bestselling author of the hit Netflix drama The One.

The Minders is the first book that I have read by John Marrs. I really would have liked to have read The One and The Passengers.

Five strangers guard our secrets. Only four can be trusted.

I liked the weird idea of match your DNA pairing, with years earlier, scientists had discovered a gene that all humans possessed and was shared with just one other person. They could be of any sex, religion, age or location. But they were the one your DNA was generally programmed to be with. people registered their DNA through a simple mouth swab. There’s a  malicious security breach in which thousands of couples had been falsely matched.

I also liked the chapters devoted to each character, Flick, Charlie, Sinead,Emila, and  Bruno .

A little about he characters.

Flick: On Flick’sTV screen an image appeared of someone outside her front door.

Charlie who refuses to accept a government official version of events and a hushed up investigation.

Sinead whose husband that will grind her down, and it’s not late for her to start again.

Emilia’s body convulsed as if someone had plunged something sharp and electrified into the crown of her head.

Bruno has a meeting with his solicitor, Emily Laghari she’s scrolling through pages on an electronic device. What will Bruno find out?

What’s to look forward too is what very much looks like official papers. It’s confidential top secret UK eyes only , classified documents of the property of his majesty’s government. Mintues of joint cyber-espionage intelligence committee assessment meetings all in full details.

John Marrs is the author of #1 Best Sellers The One, The Good Samaritan, When You Disappeared, Welcome to Wherever You Are, Her Last Move, The Passengers, The Minders and What Lies Between Us.
