The sixth novel in a stunning series set in eighteenth century Cornwall, perfect for fans of Bridgerton.

Cornwall 1800

Imprisoned on false pretences, Madeleine Pelligrew, former mistress of Pendenning Hall, has spent the last fourteen years shuttled between increasingly destitute and decrepit mad houses. When a strange man appears out of the blue to release her, she can’t quite believe that her freedom comes without a price. Hiding her identity, Madeleine determines to discover the truth about what happened all those years ago. Unsure who to trust and alone in the, Madeleine strikes up a tentative friendship with a French prisoner on parole, Captain Pierre de la Croix. But as she learns more about the reasons behind her imprisonment, and about those who schemed to hide her away for so long, she starts to wonder if Pierre is in fact the man he says he is. As Madeleine’s past collides with her present, can she find the strength to follow her heart , no matter the personal cost?

MY REVIEW

This is my second book that I have read by the author Nicola Pryce. The first book I read was A Cornish Betrothal.

The Cornish Captive would make a lovely Christmas present for a mother or nan that adores reading stories set in the 1800.

The Cornish Captive held a lump in my throat for poor Madeleine Pelligrew.

The story takes place in Cornwall during the year 1800.

Madeleine Pelligrew a former mistress of Pendenning Hall, heartbreakingly spent the last fourteen years being locked away from one mad house to another. To make matters worse each time Madeleine’ has been moved from the mad houses her name was secretly changed and her records were wiped clean so no one could find her.

Nicola Pryce has written a lovely engaging story as we follow what happens to Madeleine who is free at last , but will she learn to love again?

I had feelings for Madeleine being wrongfully locked up for so long I there for really wanted Madeleine to find love and comfort in her life, when she makes friends with a French prisoner on parole.

What I loved about reading The Cornish Captive is that I was impressed with all the cast characters good or bad, and found the family tree at the beginning came in really useful even though I knew who was who.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Corvus Books for sending me this early paperback ahead of the release date in January 2022
