MY REVIEW

The writing is beautiful, I could easy picture the whole scene. Where the scene is so real-life I felt like I was there seeing Miranda off on her journey on the ship. I love how the author Paula Greenlees has adapted the scenery from the boat absolutely perfectly. I absolutely recommend reading Journey to Paradise.

An impossible choice.

A love that will change forever.

As the writing is so beautiful I wanted to show you just how beautiful the scene has been set, so I decided to do an extract, from page 1 and 2.

Miranda knotted her coat belt to keep out the tugging wind and noticed just how much her hands were shaking. She dug them into her pockets, hoping that no one would see, but she needn’t have bothered. Her husband, Gerry, was glancing towards the gangplank and her mother was pulling something out of her bag.

Immediately, she recognised her grandmother’s writing case. It was made from maroon calfskin and inside there were sheets of paper textured roughly, like tree bark, and envelopes that were lined with silver paper that crackled to touch. The case was such a lovely thing. ‘I knew you always liked it,’ her mother said. ‘And I thought you could use it to write to us, let us know how you are.’ Her voice quivered and the words caught in her throat before drifting away, her gaze fell from Miranda’s face to the ground.

‘She’ll be fine,’ her father said. ‘There will be so many new things to see, she probably won’t have the time to write.’

Gerry glanced at his watch then touched her elbow, lightly nudging her away. ‘Darling, we’d better get a move on.’

She took the case and hugged her mother while she wiped away the tears that she didn’t want her mother to see.

‘Please. Don’t worry about me.’ She whispered, ‘I’ll be all right. But you won’t forget, will you. About the flowers.’ ‘White roses. Every week.’ Her mother squeezed her back.’ I promise. She kissed Miranda on cheek. ‘ I guess you had better go,’ her mother sighed. ‘Take care, darling, won’t you?’
