Justice in the Age of Judgment: From Amanda Knox to Kyle Rittenhouse and the Battle for Due Process in the Digital Age by Anne Bremner and Doug Bremner

From Amanda Knox to O.J., Casey Anthony to Kyle Rittenhouse, our justice system faces scrutiny and pressure from the media and public like never before. Can the bedrock of “innocent until proven guilty” survive in what acclaimed Seattle attorney and legal analyst Anne Bremner calls the age of judgement?

When unscrupulous Italian prosecutors waged an all-out war in the media and courtroom to wrongly convict American exchange student Amanda Knox for a murder she didn’t commit, family and friends turned to renowned Seattle attorney and media legal analyst Anne Bremner to help win her freedom. The case was dubbed the “trial of the decade” and would coincide with the explosion of social media and a new era of trying cases in public as much as the courtroom. While Italian prosecutors, the press, and online lynch mobs convicted Knox in the court of public opinion, Bremner would draw upon her decades in the courtroom and in front of the camera to turn the tide with a new kind of defense in pursuit of justice.

In Justice in the Age of Judgement, Anne Bremner and Doug Bremner take us inside some of the biggest cases of recent times and offers her expert, thought-provoking insights and analysis as our legal system faces unprecedented forces fighting to tip the scales of justice their way. Why couldn’t prosecutors convict O.J. Simpson despite all of the evidence seemingly proving he killed his wife Nicole? Could a jury remain unbiased in the face of overwhelming public pressure in the trial of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd? Why was Kyle Rittenhouse exonerated after shooting three people (killing two) with an assault rifle at a violent rally despite widespread media reports seemingly proving his guilt, and national calls for his conviction?

Justice in the Age of Judgement is an unparalleled and unflinching look at the captivating cases tried on Twitter and TV, where the burden of proof and fundamental legal tenet of “innocent until proven guilty” is under assault from the court of public opinion.

MY REVIEW

I remember closely being glued to the news about Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffael, being accused of murdering Meredith Kercher. Everyone knew the name Amanda Knox, she became a household name, in every house through the news on television and being in every newspaper on a regular basis.

Although I knew all about some things to do with Amanda Knox’s trail, I wanted to read this non-fiction, true crime book to find out what really went on in her case. And to find out from a high-profile lawyer, more.

I found this book really interesting about quite a few true crimes that I didn’t even know about. And I have a high degree of respect for all the hard work that high-profile lawyer Anne Bremner has achieved.

Anne Bremner is a high-profile lawyer from settle, who was asked in 2008, to defend a settle college student accused of the brutal murder of her roommate while studying in Italy.

It took Anne years and thousands of hours for her team in the United States and Italy to help win Amanda Knox her exoneration.

High-profile lawyer Anne Bremner has been in enough courtrooms, jail cells and other places so, she was the right lawyer to help Amanda Knox in her trail.

What I didn’t really think about before is now days with smartphones, footage of anything crime related can go viral, on places like Facebook, Twitter and tabloids. On these platforms when people started to watch about Amanda Knox, viewers were making their minds up that Amanda Knox was guilty at first sight, leading viewers to make a judgement on someone before all the facts in court have been heard.

Unfortunately Amanda Knox was a killer in people’s eyes across the globe.

To me it seemed the tabloids were giving fake news, because they wanted Amanda Knox to be a killer. But in technical terms the fact is, a person is innocent until proven guilty.

I liked how Anne Bremner, takes the reader through how different the law in court is in other places like Italy, and England and the USA.

There is evidence in this book that Amanda Knox didn’t have a chance before she arrived in court, because she looked guilty so the police, and everyone connected to the case.

Find out what the Perugia police and the Perugian prosecutor did, in the Amanda Knox case.

Anne Bremner has lots of lovely glossy coloured photos, of many of the top true crime cases.

This book also goes into the case against Michael Jackson, O. J . Simpson and many others that have been on trail, that I found fascinating to read about.

Anne Bremner covered this for court TV, Justice for George Floyd, that everyone in our homes were upset at the way the Minneapolis police offers arrested George Floyd and one of them knelt on George pinning him down, leading him to not breathe.

Justice in the age of Judgment is a lengthy fascinating book of 220 pages, full of true crime.

I know this book is just right for the audience of readers that like reading about true crime court cases.

I would like to thank Kelly Lacey at Love books tours for kindly inviting me to take part in the blog tour and for Kelly and the author for sending me a printed Hardback copy to read and review.
