My (extra) Ordinary Life Rebecca Ryan

My (extra) Ordinary Life By Rebecca Ryan

Paperback published by Simon and Schuster UK 5th January 2023

ISBN 9781398509245

Have you ever wondered how normal you are?
What if you were perfectly average?
More than anyone else.

For Emily – it’s true. When she watches a documentary on the average human she sees her life. Her job, her hair, her favourite food. All of her – plainly, horrifically average. Even her blood group. Right there and then, she decides she wants more.

She’ll travel the world (i.e. venture out of her hometown)

She’ll become a vegan (it’s interesting to hate cheese, right?)

She’ll do something daring (As long as it’s safety tested)

Nothing will stand in the way of Emily living her best life. Not even Josh and his dimples. Because she absolutely can’t fall in love… that would be too ordinary

MY REVIEW

My extra big shout out is don’t miss this unputdownable excellent fiction book about the life of twins.

I loved reading My (extra) Ordinary Life by Rebecca Ryan, as it has all the ingredients of a special story with family, grief, career choices, anxiety, stress, list to do in life, falling in love, tears, and laughter.

My advice before you start reading My extra Ordinary Life, make sure you have a pile of tissue ready as I went through many. This story had it fair share of tears, with laughter too.

I loved how the story switches with Emily Turner in the past with her twin sister Claire and her family, and then it switches to the present day.

I had a great connection with Characters Emily and Claire who were twins.

It brought back my own memories that I knew two sets of twins, each of them strived to be the best and wanted attention.

Everyone expects twins to be the same just because they look the same. But the truth is twins are not the same in every way.

Although Emily and Claire had the perfect close relationship as twins, I can identify with how each had their own personalities.

In Emily’s younger days, Emily is the quite one with not feeling good at anything where Claire her twin sister is the extrovert, good at everything like singing, and dancing.

This story is really sad, I wanted to give Emily a big hug when devastation affects her when Claire her twin, dies from cancer at the age of 8 and 9 months. Before Claire died she writes letters to Emily and her family.

Emily misses Claire which seems to have affected her really badly, questioning everything about her own life.

I felt really sorry for Emily having a midlife crisis at 28. I know it can happen to anyone at any point in your life no matter what your age.

Emily has a life list, which each and every one of us can see our own goals in life.

Be Spontaneous,

Be Successful,

Be Brave,

Be Compassionate,

Be Inspirational,

Be Helpful,

Be An Explorer,

Be Authentic.

I also connected to Emily being a teacher as I wanted to be a drama teacher. The only thing is Emily thinks she is in an ordinary job, with being just a perfectly average person.

I loved how in this story Emily is bang up to date with using the technology of WhatsApp. I’m afraid I’m not up to date with the technology like Emily, I’m not on WhatsApp.

With my hand on my heart I very much a 100% recommend reading My (extra) Ordinary Life by Rebecca Ryan.

About author Rebecca Ryan

Rebecca Ryan lives in Bradford with her husband and three young children. Although she always loved writing, it hadn’t really occurred to her that she could do it professionally. She currently splits her time between writing and working as a history teacher at a large comprehensive school. She enjoys walking in the countryside and takeaways (if that counts as a hobby), which it probably doesn’t.
