She’s stayed quiet for too long. Now it’s time to speak the truth.
Until twenty-four hours ago, Mickey Hayward was living her dream life. Working for a media company. In a committed, loving relationship. Now she’s tossed aside, fired for a younger, more agreeable Black writer. Sick of being overlooked and undervalued, she responds with an online letter, detailing the racism she’s faced within the industry it is met with silence. And then Mickey’s girlfriend suggests they go on a break, and it’s the final straw.
As Mickey flees to her hometown, the simplicity of the everyday and the arms of an old flame are all too tempting. But there’s nowhere to hide when Mickey’s letter suddenly becomes viral sensation. Now, everyone wants to hear what she has to say.
It’s what Mickey has always wanted isn’t it?
MY REVIEW
Today I’m giving a huge shout out I’ve the perfect summer read for all you ladies, that loves fashion and makeup. Homebodies debut book by Tembe Denton-Hurst is a must buy must read!
Summer is here and we all like to look our best in summer time, dressing up putting our makeup on, reading books and fashion magazines. This fantastic page-turning debut novel Homebodies reflect a women at a beauty event, racism, and a lesbian relationship.
This fiction book is beautifully written!
In New York, Mickey Hayward, is a black women writer, working for a trendy media company, brainstorming her next big idea. She is in a loving relationship with her girlfriend Alex.
Although Mickey and Chelsea had never been friends, but she didn’t suspect anything When Chelsea Cook invited Mickey to a beauty event.
Chelsea was a white senior beauty editor, who was loved by everyone. At the beauty event, in secret, Chelsea informs Mickey that her boss Nina, is doing an opening on her team in a few months for Mickey’s job.
It’s clear to Mickey that since she is the only black women working as a writer, that racism is taking place that’s why Nina wants her out of the office as since Nina took over, she has only hired white people.
Chelsea and Mickey are completely different. Chelsea would put in the effort to learn every PR person’s name and the brands they represented, she went to every meeting and all of the events, bringing in business for the company, while Mickey spent weekends in bed.
I love reading about difficult situations in an office, with the wicked boss, tied in with relationships, therefore I absolutely loved reading every page. If you read or watched The Devil Wears Prada you are in for a real treat with Homebodies. I’m now keeping an eye on this new voice from Tembe Denton-Hurst with her next book.
I would like to thank Harper Collins for sending me this fantastic book to read and review.
