The Burning Girl Mark Billingham

The Burning Girl By Mark Billingham

Paperback published by Sphere

A MAN WHO KILLS FOR MONEY
X marks the spot – and when that spot is a corpse’s naked back and the X is carved in blood, DI Tom Thorne is in no doubt that the dead man is the latest victim of a particularly vicious killer.

A BRUTAL VENDETTA
This is brutal turf warfare between north London gangs. Organised crime boss Billy Ryan is moving into someone else’s patch, and that someone is not best pleased.

A COP WHO IS PLAYING WITH FIRE
And when an X is carved on DI Tom Thorne’s front door, he knows the smouldering embers of this case are about to erupt into flames…

Part of one of my favourite lines from page 55 and 56

He lay awake in the dark, thinking about the burning girl. He’d never really stopped thinking about her, for one reason or another, not for any significant length of time, but lately, for obvious reasons, she’d been on his mind a great deal. The colours and smells, which had understandably faded over the years, were suddenly more vivid, more pungent than they had been at any time since it had all happened. Not that he’d had much more than a second or two back then to take it all in. Once the flames had taken hold, he’d had to be away sharpish, down that hill towards the spot where he’d parked the car. He’d moved almost as quickly as the girl herself.
