Jake dialled, face brightening. ‘Maybe he’s found a girlfriend b now.’ He put the phone on speaker as it rang.
‘Maybe.’ She didn’t want to tell him what really happened on stag weekends. The phone rang and rang but there was no answer.
Jake’s face fell.
‘Want to leave a voicemail?’
‘Yeah.’ Jake cheered up and shouted into the handset. ‘LOVE YOU, DAD. TALK TO GIRLS. LOTS OF GIRLS. BYE.’
‘Wow.’ Beth put the phone down. That was loud.
‘He’s probably in the pub. Pubs are noisy, so I thought I’d shout.’
