At the age of 42 Caroline has just booted her soon to be ex husband out of her house. After years of having her confidence chiselled away by him she is ready to rediscover life and herself.
With the help of her two best friends Marge and Jenny, she throws herself into the new world of dating, discovering the perks of non committed fun along the way.
That is until she has an unfortunate accident at her local supermarket which puts her newly discovered freedom on hold.
Despite her initial protests, Caroline’s new Co worker Gary steps into her life acting gallantly as her knight in shining armour. Even though she sworn never to fall in love again, she hadn’t counted on Gary giving his all to convince her otherwise.
MY REVIEW
Love, Friends and Other Perks is funny and uplifting. Caroline is single almost divorced and definitely looking for love or is she? After reading the first page I was hooked right into this story, until the very last page. Definitely a 5 star read.
ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PARTS FROM CHAPTER ONE PAGE 1
1 BYE, BYE! MAKE SURE YOU SHUT THE DOOR BEHIND YOU!
Craig my soon to be ex-husband, slammed the wooden front door hard into its frame, it’s force sending little vibrations if anxiety not only through the house but also through my body. Even though I’d heard his heavy footsteps coming down the stairs and knew he was going to be walking out of my house, I still had to flinch, anxiety causing my heart to race in my chest. Would he turn around, hurling insults at me once again, telling me I’d made the biggest mistake of my life? Or was the forceful slam of the door his final attempt to intimidate and scare me?
I cautiously got off the chair I’d spent countless nights crying in and edged closer to the corner of the window. I didn’t want Craig to see me, I didn’t want him to have one final excuse to come back in, using whatever look he thought I’d given him as an opportunity to assert his inflated self-importance over me one last time.
I’m a mother of 2 and live just outside London! I wrote my first, albeit handwritten book ( called The Shark) when I was 8 years young! It did however took me more than 30 years to plug up the courage to publish my work! My first published children’s book Hidden Talents was inspired by my daughter, who shares the same passion for reading and who always has several books on the go. https://www.instagram.com/anja.barker.authorhttps://www.authoranjabarker.co.uk/
