We all have two lives. However we only start the second, on the day we realize that we only have one. Even within our first life, there are two distinct sides. The one we are proud and allow other people to see, and the side that we keep hidden. The side plagued by loneliness, self-doubt, and regret. So, what does it take to get to a second life? It is on the other side of fear. And this memoir shows that the most terrifying risk to the liberty and happiness of our first life, often hide in plain sight. The compelling true story of one loving father and the two sides of his first life, then his desperate but inspiring transition from his first life into his second. What did it take for him to get there? It took him being absolutely terrified.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PART IN THIS BOOK

How does a second life from a first? My story of reaching the second will demonstrate it perfectly for those languishing in the latter. I guarantee the perception of your life will never be the same after reading about it. What did it take for me to get a second life? Was it an occupation of cheating death? Was it multiple occasions of evading the grim reaper? Was it being arrested and thrown in jail for no reason? Perhaps a better question might be. How much do I love my child? What am I willing to go through to be in my child’s only life? one of my shocking moments reading this book is on page 13

The kangaroo launches a right upper cut with its paw that connects with my jaw with such a force that it picks me up off its feet. Falling back against the wire mesh fence, I have enough composure to stay standing. Barely. Panicking, I step away from the perimeter that is holding me up and am now standing in open space, facing away from the kangaroo. That gives the Big Red the opportunity to lean back and balance on its tail as it kicks its legs forward to my back. This sends me flying across the enclosure into the fence beside the gate.

My face squarely strikes one of the poles of the fence. I crush my nose, as well as suffering a deep laceration across my forehead.

About writer Simon Yates

Simon Yeats has lived nine lives, and by all estimations, is fast running out of the number he has left. His life of globetrotting the globe was not the one he expected to lead. He grew up a quiet, shy boy teased by other kids on the playgrounds for his red hair. But he developed a keen wit and sense of humor to always see the funnier side of life.

With an overwhelming love of travel, a propensity to find trouble where there was none, and being a passionate advocate of mental health, Simon’s stories will leave a reader either rolling on the floor in tears of laughter, or breathing deeply that the adventures he has led were survived.
