As headstrong as her twin is gentle, Nina has never fit the womanly mould society expects of her. Alfie and Nina Mullins have already relied on their shared world of hope and make-believe for comfort, but as the pressure on Alfie to prove himself at the Fronts mounts, Nina s presented with more possibility than she had ever imagined and the two are pushed in wildly different directions.

MY REVIEW

This book is fabulously written, with the flow of scenes at home and with the First World War break out. I liked several things about this novel. The first thing that I see once opening this book, I thought was an excellent idea is on the first two pages are special cuts outs, one of a nurse uniform, and the other in an army uniform. All though I did find this story sad at times, I laughed too. The Mullins family have a maid, Gertie, who cooks for them, and looks after all of them. The most funniest thing for me set within the story, is how Nina is bored, trying to occupy Alfie she is playing on the stairs, pretending to be an eagle, and jumping of the stairs. In a trunk, the twins, Nina and Alfie, find a bright Crimson soldier’s tunic, with brass buttons. The saddest part is when Nina’s mother dies, with her last request was for Nina to look after Alfie. This book The Red Tunic is perfect to be turned into a film. If you liked reading some war related books such as Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey, The Alice Network by Kate Quinn and The Things We Cannot Say, by Kelly Rimmer, you are in for a real treat with The Red Tunic, by Kate Wiseman that’s unputdownable.
