After Mama died, we left England on a road trip across Zimbabwe. It should have been fun, if only everyone weren’t so angry. That’s when I first met Meticais. No-one else can see them. Not even with their coiled dreads, crown sunflowers and rings that sparkle like crazy. And they’re pushing me to tell my story of the day my world turned upside down.

MY REVIEW

All That It Ever Meant, is a nice short novel, of 208 pages, for 12 years up, I do love it when inside a book has a bonus little extra chapter of the author’s next book, which for Blessing Musariri, her new next exciting novel is When It’s Your Turn For Midnight that will be published in November 2024, so not long for me to wait to get this authors next novel.

Part of chapter two

I’m going to tell you exactly how everything happened. Baba always says, Mati mwana’ngu, I love a good story but I don’t have time for a long one, so make it short. When I was three I used to tell people my name was Matiponesa Mwana’ngu Mufanani. Mama and Baba used to laugh their heads off. Of course, it turns out, mwana’ngu is what you say to your child to let them know they’re yours and you love them but you don’t want to hear a long story, or you want to sweeten them up to pass you a glass of water, even though you could do it yourself. ‘Matiponesa, my child, I’m in a hurry so make it quick.’
