Nowhere to hide. No-one to turn to. Nothing to lose. Helen Grace is sure she made the right decision to quit her job as a detective. Until the day she looks out from her window to see a desperate young woman being beaten by two thugs. Still a force to be reckoned with, Helen races into the night and strikes the men down. For a moment it feels like she doesn’t need her badge to do good, but as she leads the girl to safety, she’s struck from behind, regaining consciousness just in time to see the victim being dragged into a white van. Helen’s determined to find the woman and save her, but even begging her former colleagues to help gets her nowhere. It’s clear it’ll be up to her alone to make the rescue. Taking matters into her own hands, Helen uncovers more vulnerable women connected to the first who desperately need her help. But fighting crime as a maverick is a dangerous game. One that could cost Helen her life, and the life of those she holds dear.
MY REVIEW
A big shout out, here’s something to cheer you all up with a brand new chilling novel to look forward to. I have been a very big fan of M.J.Arlidge, since I read his very first novel Eeny Meeny. This is for real, it’s a well known fact that nobody does chilling suspense quite like M.J.Arlidge. Wow for me, I think Into the Fire, has to be my favourite heart thumping Helen Grace, novel. Suspense fans you seriously need read this book. Here’s a glimpse of what’s going to make you all turn pale, and sit on the edge of your seat. To her immense relief, a vehicle now swung into the road ahead, dazzling her with its headlights. It was coming directly toward her and she waved her hands wildly above her head, desperately trying to attract the driver’s attention. ‘Help me! Please stop…’ Her voice was shrill and cracked, but it seemed to have an effect, the vehicle screeching to a halt just in front of her. Relieved, Selima slowed down, thanking the heavens for her good fortune. But as the headlights flicked off and the shape of the vehicle became clear, Selima’s hope’s turned to ashes. It wasn’t a passing car, or a police vehicle. It was the white van. Naz’s partner in crime had cut off her escape route. This new novel is full of frightening tension, the crime books I love to get lost in, to the point I cut off conversations with anyone in the room.
