The beautiful Hardback

Nineteen-year-old Elisabeth can finally breathe.

Her cosy cabin is quite. Isolated. Safe. She is determined to be alone far away from everyone she knows and the memories that haunt her. When a snow storm plunges the town into darkness, Elisabeth reluctantly accepts help from Noah, the town’s sheriff. As the two grow close, Elisabeth begins to realise that she can’t stay hidden forever, embracing the dark might be the only way to let the light in.

MY REVIEW

Today I’m shouting loudly about a new author that I have found with her fantastic page-turning debut fiction novel, I Am the cage by Allison Sweet Grant. Honestly it is so brilliantly written I just couldn’t believe that this is Allison Sweet Grant’s very first novel. The story literally broke my heart, with Elisabeth living in Fish Creek, a small town where she walks to work, then goes home to an empty house where she lives alone. She trusts no one. Then she meets the sheriff. All the time I kept reading about Elisabeth it somehow felt so realistic, it all could have been a true, but with a story made into a fiction novel, that’s just how brilliant the writing is. There is a lovely piece in the book that reads like poetry. My favourite lines. “I’m Noah. I’ve been a terrible neighbor. Please, let me be a good sheriff. Please let me give you a ride home.” I feel that tug again. The one where my brain says no no no no no. Not safe. … I loved the whole story so much, leading me to have a new author to follow so I can keep posted of Allison Sweet Grant’s next novel. I had 2 copies of this novel , one in a gorgeous paperback, the other with the same title but as a beautiful hardback. This is one is a moving novel that I truly recommend to all readers to buy and engage in. This heartfelt story is one I will never forget!
