MY REVIEW
I wanted to read Dark Pines as I’m slightly deaf in my right ear that happened through a childhood illness. I can only hold the phone to my left ear, if I hold the phone to my right ear I can’t hear a thing. I have subtitles on TV so I know everything that is being said.
The main character Tuva Moodyson is a reporter for the local newspaper is deaf, she has an older type of hearing aid where the batteries have to be changed. As soon as I see a little clip of Dark pines on Zoe Ball TV book club, I ordered the book straight away from Amazon. I have never known an author to add a deaf character in their book. It’s amazing that Dark Pines is a first book by Will Dean.
Tuva is very determined to find out who in Gavrick is killing men and taking out their eyes. Twenty years ago men were being murdered, now it’s happening again. Tuva Moodyson is writing a piece in her local paper and wants to know do they have a copycat killer or is the same person killing again.
A fantastic story with all sorts of sounds and scenery that you feel like you are there deep in the forest where everything is happening. So many people in the Swedish town of Gavrick become suspects. Can reporter Tuva find out who the killer is before the police? One book you shouldn’t miss.
I’ve never read about a deaf main character either. Interesting. I wonder if the author has a hearing problem too?

Hmm interesting thought. I’ve read up on the author and can’t see that he has disclosed about any hearing problems. I know Will Dean did get a lot of information from a deaf blogger. A fantastic book I strongly recommend.
