Confessions of a Forty Something F##k up by Alexandra potter

Hardback published by pan Macmillan 31st December 2020

Nell Stevens life is a mess. Until recently, she’s been living in America with Ethan, her fiancé, but when her bookshop-cum-cafe goes bust, along with her relationship and all her savings, she moves back to London to start over. But a lot has changed since she’s been gone. All her friends are happily married with children, and with rent sky-high, she’s forced to flatshare while she looks for a job.

Left out of the mummy club, Nell feels left behind, she misses her friends. When an old work contact gets her a job writing obituaries, she meets Cricket, an eighty-something widow who never had kids, and they strike up an unlikely friendship. Whereas Nell’s friends are all busy with their families, all Cricket’s friends are dying off. They help each other cope with the loss of their old lives and navigate towards new ones with optimism, poignancy and humour.

Everyone has a path to their perfect life. It’s knowing when to take the right turn.

Time for Nell to fall in love with her life.  Not the man.

MY REVIEW

I absolutely loved reading every page of Confessions of a forty Something f##k up ! Its addictive and so very funny. I haven’t laughed so much for a long time and I can’t remember a book that had me smiling in lots of scenes.

Nell Stevens is a great character that I enjoyed reading about. Nell thought she had her life complete with her Instagram filled with #Imsoblessed and #livingmybest life.

I did feel sorry for Nell as her business went bust and her relationship with her boyfriend ended. Nell seems to think that all her friends have the perfect life, married with babies, and Nell is back with her mum living in her old bedroom.

I loved the idea Nell writing down in a notebook everything she was greatful for. I thought Alexandra Potter came up with a very interesting idea.

Will Nell Steven’s life turn around when she is forced move from California to London sharing a flat with a married man, who has a ring binder full of rules that Nell has to abide by.

Alexander is one my favourite authors after reading Love from Paris, that I also gave five stars too and recommend.

Please don’t miss Confessions of a forty something f##k up, as it is a fabulous best friend of a book for women who enjoy reading books with humour and a character you want the best in life for.

MY SPECIAL THANKS TO
